QUALIFICATIONS
My training in Oriental medicine diagnosis and treatment comes from an extensive apprenticeship under a Traditional Chinese Master Physician, rooted in ancient medical wisdom. Although the school where I studied—the Chou School of Acupuncture—has since closed, my Master continues to teach and influence practitioners in the fields of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The program emphasized both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, ensuring that every student developed a comprehensive skill set to achieve the best outcomes for patients.

My background also includes rigorous discipline and mental fortitude shaped by my service in the Taiwanese military. This experience strengthened my ability to think logically, act decisively, and design effective treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.

Driven by a desire to share the profound benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine with people in the United States, I became licensed by the Florida Board of Acupuncture. Today, I am a focused physician with broad clinical experience in internal medicine and a deep commitment to guiding patients toward sustained well-being. I also continue to deliver hands-on training in China, helping professionals build skills and confidence.

Yangfen Sun (Sophia) is board certified by NCBAHM (National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, formerly known as NCCAOM) in the United States. She graduated with a Master of Science degree from Florida College of Integrative Medicine earning her Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture Physician designation in the state of Florida.

Sophia specializes in chronic pain, arthritis, and car accident and sports injuries. Sophia has experienced success in treating female disorders, such as irregular menses, infertility, and menopausal symptoms. Similarly, she has treated prostate-related issues, and sexual function problems in males and females alike. Sophia incorporates acupuncture, cupping, Gua Sha, moxibustion, auricular acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and dietary/lifestyle recommendations to help provide lasting results.

Sophia believes that Chinese herbal medicine is absolutely necessary and recommended when treating patients with acupuncture. Sophia is honored to expand her herbal knowledge by working for over a decade with Dr. Bo-Shih Ni, a world class Chinese Herbalist and Doctor of Oriental Medicine.

Sophia loves to help and talk with people. One day in Taiwan, she met her good friend who grew up in a family of acupuncturists. She observed how they effectively achieved long-lasting wellness for patients with love, passion, and Chinese herbal medicine. That was how Sophia became interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her desire to help others would be best served by becoming a Doctor of Chinese Medicine.

“ Support Your Body’s Natural Balance and Long-Term Wellness”

Traditional Chinese Medicine starts from a simple premise: when the body is in balance, it tends to look after itself. When something tips that balance — a year of poor sleep, chronic stress that never quite resolves, a diet that doesn’t suit your constitution, the gradual shifts that come with aging, an emotionally heavy chapter of life — the signals show up as symptoms. My work is to help you read those signals and support the underlying system, not just quiet the noise on the surface.

I am licensed by the Florida Board of Acupuncture to practice acupuncture and Oriental medicine, and I hold national board certification from the NCBAHM (the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, formerly the NCCAOM before its January 2026 rebrand). I earned my Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine through the program founded at the American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Minnesota, now operated by the American Academy of Health and Wellness.

My clinical training spans the full range of TCM tools: body, auricular, and scalp acupuncture; Chinese herbal medicine; moxibustion; gua sha; cupping; and dietary and lifestyle guidance grounded in TCM theory. No two patients arrive with the same picture, so the approach is built around your constitution and your circumstances rather than a fixed protocol.

If you’ve never tried acupuncture or TCM before, my goal is to make the first visit feel less like an unfamiliar ritual and more like a careful conversation — about how you’ve been feeling, what your body might be telling you, and how we can work together to give it the support it needs.
